My name is Hiccup Sibold (he/him). I am a 23 year old mixed-media artist. Mainly a fashion photographer, illustrator, and ceramic artist. I received a BFA in Commercial Photography with a minor in Ceramic Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design. I recently studied at Parsons the New School in a Fashion Design course titled Fashion Imaging. I am founder and editor of PUCK Magazine and the Co-Editor of RINGO Magazine with Miki Kakebayashi.
The main symbols, motifs, and themes within my art are youth, fruit, nostalgia, technology, oceanic imagery, and people. Fruit and fish are both archaic and ancient symbols often tied to religion. My mother is a priest and spirituality was very influential in my upbringing. I was born in Alabama and much of my identity comes from being raised in the south. I have 4 cats and my favorite bands are Bôa the Pillows. A book I would recommend is kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto.
Photography as been my mode of expression since I was young. Illustrating my vantage on life through a camera is like an extension of my arms. Communication through images and visual arts has always been intrinsic to the human fabric. My heart also lies in the art of fashion, all alternative and interesting clothes. The way fabric can be pulled and shaped to create lines, aesthetic, and story. Forever enamored by the intersection of nuance and mediums to create a piece. Depicting human connection and expression. I seek to document Fashion that is timeless and everlasting art.
I love drawing, because creation out nothing is possible. I don't have to get it all in front of my lens. I find this is why art that is raw appeals to me more that art that is hyper-realistic. I love art that shows humanity amidst fantasy. I aim to produce art that makes you feel something. A lurch in your gut or pull on your heart.
